About the Role:
As a field-deployed Waste Service Representative, you'll be the primary point of contact for research and operations organizations, working closely with the facility's Environmental Management System and Waste Management Program. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring environmentally sound practices and regulatory compliance.
What You'll Do:
Assist waste generators in identifying and characterizing waste, excess materials, and recyclable materials.
Guide the proper management of wastes in accordance with regulations and company requirements.
Help develop waste sampling plans, incorporating process knowledge.
Prepare waste characterization data packages and waste documentation.
Sign and submit waste documentation for review and certification.
Assist in identifying waste packaging requirements.
Identify and implement pollution prevention initiatives.
Contribute to organizational reviews, assessments, and surveillances related to waste and excess materials management.
What You'll Bring:
Broad knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management requirements (applicable environmental laws & regulations), and chemistry, biochemistry, and/or related environmental sciences.
Strong understanding of Federal and State of Tennessee environmental laws, regulations, and programs, including those governing solid and liquid waste management.
Familiarity with applicable Executive Orders, DOE Orders, and other government requirements related to environmental protection and waste management.
Detailed technical knowledge in relevant areas (transuranic waste management, remote-handled waste management, or specific environmental compliance areas).
Familiarity with accepted approaches in environmental and waste sampling programs (e.g., sample plan development), data verification and validation, and results interpretation.
Familiarity with instruments/equipment common to environmental and waste management (environmental data management tools, waste tracking systems, sampling equipment, etc.).
Knowledge of Low-Level Radioactive Waste and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations for storage and disposal.
Knowledge of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
A minimum of a B.S. degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
At least five (5) years of relevant environmental and/or waste management experience working in a DOE environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Prior experience working at ORNL and familiarity with its programs and procedures is preferred.
