We're looking for a dedicated Waste Service Representative to play a vital role in supporting environmental compliance and waste management programs. You'll work directly with research and operations organizations, ensuring proper handling and disposal of waste materials. Your Role in Environmental Stewardship:
Waste Management Expertise: Assist waste generators in identifying and characterizing waste products, excess materials, and recyclable materials.
Compliance Assurance: Ensure proper management of wastes in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
Sampling and Documentation: Assist in developing waste sampling plans and preparing waste characterization data packages and waste documentation.
Waste Packaging: Assist in identifying waste packaging requirements.
Pollution Prevention: Identify and implement pollution prevention initiatives.
Reviews and Assessments: Assist in organizational reviews, assessments, and surveillances related to waste and excess materials management.
Regulatory Knowledge: Apply broad knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management requirements, including federal and state laws and regulations.
Technical Expertise: Utilize detailed technical knowledge in areas such as transuranic waste management, remote-handled waste management, and specific environmental compliance areas.
Data Interpretation: Interpret environmental and waste management data against established regulatory standards.
Equipment Familiarity: Utilize instruments and equipment common to environmental and waste management areas, including data management tools and sampling equipment.
What We're Looking For:
B.S. degree from an accredited college or university in a science or engineering discipline.
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant environmental and/or waste management experience, preferably in a DOE environment.
Knowledge of Low-Level Radioactive Waste and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations for storage and disposal.
Knowledge of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
Prior experience working with ORNL and a working knowledge of its environmental and waste management programs and procedures (preferred).
Strong understanding of environmental compliance and waste management requirements.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
