Position Description and Responsibilities

We seek people who value the responsibility of design, humbly engage many, pursue ideas with rigor, and seek meaningful outcomes both big and small. Currently, our 130+ employees collaborate across our Studio and office locations. Our practice's core values embrace equity, diversity and creative freedom.

We are seeking a full-time Urban Planner / Designer to work as part of our City Design studio in Kansas City. In this role you will apply critical thinking and problem solving to the planning and design challenges of the built environment, within the varied scales of the city. You will contribute to our Studio's design philosophy and values and their application, to translate community needs and aspirations to visionary yet pragmatic plans, designs, and regulations. You will have opportunities to lead and contribute to a variety of planning and design projects, across all phases, while engaging communities and clients.

We are Seeking Candidates with:

  • A professional degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or similar degree from an accredited program.
  • 4+ years of experience, and project management experience is desired. AICP is preferred.
  • Passion for urbanism and city building.
  • Strong understanding of urban design principles and their application.
  • Knowledge and curiosity to support and lead projects as part of an evolving design studio to affect the quality of communities.
  • Strong graphic communication skills and experience with GIS, Google Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite (including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat), to illustrate ideas in a variety of graphic media.
  • Excellent writing skills, and the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Effective, clear communication skills - written, verbal, and presentation.
  • The ability to multitask and solve problems.

This is a full-time position which includes generous benefits such as vacation time, wellness time, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as participation in a 401(k) and employee stock ownership plan.

If this sounds like you, please submit your resume and an electronic portfolio. We look forward to getting to know you!
