Job Description
The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is a member of the pastoral staff who shall be responsible for the Faith Formation of children and adults of the parish to be carried out according to the catechetical norms of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
The Director of Religious Education works to ensure a well-rounded faith and sacramental preparation formation program is developed for the parish. The Director also oversees the religious education training including children, youth, Adults, and the OCIA process.
The Director of Religious Education also works with other members of the parish staff to foster cohesiveness among all ministries.
This position is a 12-month position which includes evening and weekend hours for the celebration of the Sacraments, as well as parents’ meetings and events preparing for the celebration of the Sacraments. Regular working hours are flexible to meet the needs of the individuals of those taking classes.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: - In conjunction with the Pastor and in compliance with diocesan guidelines, sets the general direction of the Religious Education/Order of Christian Initiation program and develops the curriculum for youth and adult faith formation.
- Schedules Baptisms and meeting with parents of children to be baptized.
- In conjunction with the Pastor, plan and present Parent Meetings for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
- Planning Mass or service for those sacraments.
- Gathers information for sacrament records in parish.
- Secures Baptismal records for all students to receive sacraments.
- Works in developing and implementing an effective, well-rounded, faith formation program. Including the recruitment and registration of students for Religious Education.
- Works with teachers to practice, plan, and see that children are prepared for sacraments.
- Coordinates in developing a yearly youth/adult formation calendar.
- Select texts for RE/OCIA and disseminate the curriculum to catechists.
- Recruits, trains and provides ongoing support to volunteer catechists, assistants, and other volunteers.
- Recruits a team to plan and execute the Confirmation.
- With a team, plan and execute Gathering Day.
- Communicate with parents, staff, and parish for all the above.
- Oversees Vacation Bible School by recruiting and working with volunteers and obtain donations.
- Plan budget and spend within budget for all such ministries
- Perform other tasks as assigned/needed.
Qualifications :
- Must be an active, practicing Catholic and have an excellent knowledge of the Catholic Faith and striving to live in conformity with the moral teachings of the Church.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in theology or ability to obtain such degree is highly desirable.
- Participates in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current with trends in catechetical ministry.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and problem solving skills.
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Must be self-motivated and able to multitask.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, and Excel is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently to organize and arrange priorities.
