As a Senior Engineering Project Team Lead on the Hydraulic Mining Shovels (HMS) team, you will serve as Platform Technical Lead for an assigned HMS machine platform directing all associated engineering activities. You will manage the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach enterprise team members, and deepen your professional network. You will interact with people from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds. The incumbent will work within the team and beyond the team with contractors, suppliers, customers, and individuals working in many Caterpillar organizations. You will ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. This position resides within the Hydraulic Mining Shovel Engineering team in Tucson, AZ. **What You Will Do:** + Manage all engineering deliverables across multiple machine systems (hydraulics, structures, engine installation, etc.) associated with an assigned HMS machine platform. + Provide technical leadership for machine New Product Introduction (NPI) programs working closely with NPI project manager. + Support product health organization using technical expertise and product knowledge in addressing machine Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and customer issues. + Collaborate with the global manufacturing team to evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems. + Direct all engineering product maintenance activities associated with the machine platform. + Lead global teams in the design of new products, processes, components, and systems. + Develop, maintain, and communicate the bill of material structure for the Hydraulic Mining Shovel machine platform. + Interact with peers and supporting teams to maintain cross-platform product-line commonality. + Provide guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met. + Maintain machine requirements and technical specification documents. + Proactively identify roadblocks and work with teams to rapidly resolve to improve overall team and program efficiency. + Provide regular reports and updates, both verbal and written, to management and team members on machine platform activities. + Support marketing and commercial teams with technical information related to the machine platform. + Review platform-specific literature to ensure accuracy prior to publishing. + Conduct technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products. + Complete projects on time and on cost. + Acknowledge and raise management's awareness of trade-offs between time, resources, and quality. + Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units. + Travels to foreign and domestic plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field-test locations to evaluate product improvements. + The Senior Engineering Project Team Lead role will not have supervisor responsibility for direct reporting employees. Instead, you will direct resources assigned to your program from multiple supporting organizations. **What Skills You Will Have:** **Products and Services:** Extensive experience in engineering and manufacturability concepts. + Oversees development activities for the platform. + Coaches others on key factors that differentiate offerings from that of competition. + Monitors regulatory and environmental issues and considerations. **Technical Excellence** : Ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. + Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues. + Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions. + Assumes accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for theirs. **Influencing Through Expertise:** Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization. + Communicates complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner so that others can understand. + Exhibits depth and breadth of knowledge, skill, and experience in the relevant field. + Provides relevant, timely and objective subject matter/process expertise and key insight. **Project Management:** Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. + Manages multiple high-risk, high-cost projects involving multiple stakeholders. + Coaches others in open communication among project stakeholders. + Monitors major projects for critical path and actual status versus planned. **Requirements Analysis:** Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project. + Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms. + Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage. + Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation. **Troubleshooting Technical Problems:** Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. + Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution. + Monitors machine performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs. + Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach. **Product Design and Development:** Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. + Leads cross-functional teams assembled for the purpose of product design and development. **Degree Requirement:** Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum. **Additional Information:** This position requires the candidate **to work full-time in the Tucson, AZ office.** Domestic relocation is available. Occasional travel (10%) may be required to support activities at manufacturing and/or customer sites. Sponsorship is not available. **Summary Pay Range:** $144,960.00 - $217,320.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
