AECOM  is seeking a highly motivated Principal Geotechnical/Civil Engineer to support mine tailings and heavy mine tailings infrastructure as part of the Mining group in Denver, Colorado, Phoenix, Arizona, or Salt Lake City, Utah.  

Job Summary/Responsibilities  

  • Provides project leadership in the areas of design, investigation, analysis, and construction of Tailings Dams and Mining projects. 
  • Plans, directs, and supervises all operations included in a mid- to large, complex project or several moderately sized projects with greater risk and complexity, and moderate financial impact. 
  • Serve as the Engineer-of-Record for an inactive tailings storage facility.
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to project team, clients, regulators, and technical review boards. 
  • Supervise preparation of technical reports, dam safety inspections, and potential failure mode analyses. 
  • Participating in potential failure mode analyses and risk analyses for tailings facilities, including identifying and developing potential failure modes, and serving as subject matter expert in risk analysis workshops. 
  • Develop project proposals and work with mining business leader to support and grow Mining practice 
  • Provide direction to and mentoring to other technical staff in completing project tasks 
  • Performs independent technical reviews of engineering reports and design and signs off on work 
  • May be responsible for Project teams that include 5 or more members often representing multiple disciplines including subcontractor(s) 
  • Provide advice and consultation to client on engineering matters, including compliance with government laws and regulations 
  • Provide direction to and mentoring to senior and mid-level staff

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements  

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within 6 months
  • Valid U.S Driver’s License

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s OR PhD in Geotechnical engineering, Civil engineering or related field of study 
  • 20+ years or more of relevant experience 
  • Experience in dam design and evaluation 
  • Familiarity with design reports, drawings, and specifications 
  • Experience leading tasks with effective delegation skills 
  • Experience with GeoStudio (SEEP/W and SLOPE/W), UTEXAS4, Grapher, FLAC/FLAC3D and AutoCAD 
  • Experience with review and use of PSHA analyses 
  • Experience working on risk analysis projects 
  • Business development for new and existing clients, prepare engineering services proposals, cost estimates, and schedules. 
  • Must be a resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to people and detail 
  • Strong commitment to performing projects in a safe manner
