Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of a manager, works with minimal supervision to develop packaging solutions for the Feminine Care brands in Edgewell’s personal care product portfolio including Playtex, Carefree, Stayfree and o.b. This individual will provide packaging engineering support to innovation, cost savings and base business continuity projects. This position will serve as a key contributing member on cross functional business teams and support the development of product/package concepts from exploration through feasibility and ultimately implementation.  The individual must be a self-starter who will monitor progress against timelines and deliverable due dates. 

  • A strong member of the Packaging Engineering team that will partner with both internal and external customers, to ensure that we meet all packaging requirements supporting our business teams.
  • A fast-paced position that will participate in a wide array of packaging projects that highlight the ability to problem-solve, develop technical reports, and present information.
  • Accountable for meeting all assigned Packaging Engineering deliverables.
  • Position will be onsite daily at our Dover, DE manufacturing facility.

Essential Function

  • Manage assigned Package Development projects, working with Brand and project teams, to meet category objectives and project ship to trade dates.
  • Must demonstrate a general understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain Packaging commitments to project scheduling.
  • Clearly communicate issues effectively to technical and non-technical personnel. (Brand, Finance, Creative, Manufacturing)
  • Efficiently organize and manage workflow of multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Create, review, revise and approve new Packaging Specs, Bill of Materials, Packaging Assembly Specs, Test Methods and SOPs
  • Provide technical input to the package design process and assure design is manufacturable, while also meeting dimensional and aesthetic requirements of the Customer and Consumer.
  • Hold discussions during team meetings to communicate technical issues and details to the project team and management.
  • Develop, engineer, and test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet consumer requirements, functional parameters, costing targets, manufacturing & shipping requirements.
  • Execute new package designs and perform package component testing including line trials, ensuring the quality of packaging produced is consistent with EPC Quality standards including UDI requirements for medical devices.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis on packaging – related quality issues.
  • Work with suppliers, to develop dielines and sample prototypes, order trial materials, and solve material quality issues
  • Demonstrates ability to problem solve and troubleshoot in an automated production environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with cross functional groups located both internally and externally.
  • Support investigation of consumer complaints (customer/consumer) to meet applicable standard operating procedures.
  • Review and approve artwork changes and updates for primary packaging
  • Design secondary packing artwork and maintain generic print files
  • Keep abreast of developments across appropriate packaging and manufacturing technologies.
  • Work with manager to ensure the Packaging development process is functioning efficiently by assessing current processes and identifying ways to streamline or improve

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS in Packaging Engineering or related engineering field
  • 2-5 years’ experience working in a packaging related field
  • Knowledge of packaging components and properties including: flexible films, paperboard (folding cartons, cards, labels) plastic processing (injection and extrusion blow molding and cast and blown films) and corrugated fiberboard
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good computer skills – Microsoft Office, TOPS Palletization software, and Adobe Illustrator

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Project Management Experience and structured problem solving; Validation; DOE; Root Cause Analysis
  • Leading and collaborating with Global cross-functional teams
  • Good problem solving and time Management skills
  • Knowledge of Validation of packaging requirements in related industry
  • Experience with FDA regulated products
  • Knowledge of SAP, PLM & CAD

Work Environment

  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time (line trials, auditing)
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as in the execution of the duties of this position the employee may travel up to approximately 10% of their work time
  • Work schedules may vary from typical business hours

The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $102,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
