Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Music at Dickinson College invites applications for an open full-time lecturer position appointment beginning July 1, 2026. We seek a colleague with scholarly work and innovative teaching in music composition and theory with additional areas of expertise in acoustics, aural skills, piano, jazz performance, and theory.
In their cover letter, applicants should articulate how their work might complement existing departmental and institutional programs. The ideal candidate will primarily teach courses grounded in the areas of music theory, analysis, and composition, but interdisciplinary work is highly encouraged and valued. The teaching expectations include six courses per academic year, advising and mentoring undergraduate students, teaching one First Year Seminar every four years, service to the program (including membership on administrative and academic committees), and service to the College.
The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
Dickinson offers multiple kinds of support for professional and scholarly research and development, including regular sabbaticals, access to internal research and development grants, open pedagogical and writing workshops, and institutional assistance with grant writing.
The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
Applicants must submit a cover letter in which the candidate proposes how their scholarship and teaching will contribute to and complement the expertise of our current full-time faculty and our curriculum. Applicants shall also submit a CV, a 500-750-word statement on the candidate’s commitment to and experience in advancing equity, inclusion, and access in their teaching, and contact information for three references.
