Position Overview

The New York City Children’s Chorus is seeking a Grant Researcher/Grant Writer to support our mission of enriching the lives of talented children through excellent musical training and performances. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in securing funding by identifying grant opportunities and writing compelling grant proposals. This position requires excellent research, writing, and organizational skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Grant Researcher/Writer will work closely with the program staff, finance, and development teams to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and funding priorities. The New York City Children’s Chorus is a growing organization with a strong, supportive, experienced staff and board who anticipate further growth in the key areas of administration, development, communications, and alumni relations in the future.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Research

  • Identify, research, and evaluate new grant opportunities from government, foundation, and corporate sources that align with the mission of the New York City Children’s Chorus.
  • Monitor industry resources for relevant funding opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a database of potential organizations and deadlines of grant awards.

Grant Writing

  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of intent, and supporting materials in accordance with funder requirements.
  • Tailor proposals to meet the specific interests and guidelines of each potential funding organization.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather data and financial information to support grant applications, highlighting the transformative impact of the New York City Children’s Chorus on its choristers and the community.

Grant Strategy & Development

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive calendar of grant application deadlines and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure timely flow of information for grant submissions.
  • Track the status of grant applications and follow up on submission timelines.

Grant Management & Reporting

  • Track communication of existing grants, and in consultation with staff, ensure compliance with funder guidelines and deadlines.
  • Prepare grant reports, ensuring that all requirements are met, including data tracking, budget reporting, and narrative updates.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with staff to align funding needs with available grants.
  • Maintain communication with funders and other key stakeholders, providing updates on the progress of grant-supported initiatives.

Data & Record Keeping

  • Maintain organized and comprehensive records of all grant applications, relevant communications from funders, and reports through Microsoft.
  • Analyze and report on the success rates of grant submissions and make recommendations for future grant applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with excellent writing, editing, and overall communication skills and the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Critical thinker with strong research skills and the ability to source and analyze data to support grant proposals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and funder requirements, ideally in the arts, education, or children’s programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and grant management software and research databases.
  • Interest in furthering success of NYCCC and its creative, musical children, grades K-12, to strengthen quality of grant proposals and communications with funding stakeholders.
  • Music background or knowledge of the NYC funding landscape is a plus, particularly related to arts education and children’s programs.

Work Environment

  • In-Person, hybrid or remote work environment with potential in-person meetings or events as required. Proximity to and interest in work environment with interactions with children grades K-12.
  • Flexibility with work hours to accommodate deadlines.

Compensation

Based on experience (see below):

  • Entry-level to Mid-level Grant Writer (1-2 years of experience): $30 - $45 per hour
  • Mid-level Grant Writer (3-5 years of experience): $45 - $55 per hour
  • At least 1 year of experience in Grant writing of experience): $55 - $70 per hour
