Job Summary Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Foundations & CFO for Foundations and Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement, the Director of Foundations Finance requires the skill of an exceptional, hardworking leader with demonstrated success to execute on the organization's mission. Guided by the AVP/CFO and the organization's strategic plan, the Director provides the leadership, management, and oversight necessary to the Foundations Finance & Accounting staff to ensure that the Foundations have the appropriate financial and operational controls, reporting procedures, and systems in place to support growth while maintaining excellence and ensuring financial reliability and operating efficiency. The Director will oversee all finance-related functions for the Augusta University Foundation and will serve as key support to the AVP/CFO in overseeing the finance-related functions for the Augusta University Real Estate Foundation and the Augusta University Real Estate Corporation. Additionally, the Director will serve as a representative of the Foundations in finance-related matters with all of Augusta University's constituency groups.
Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversee the Finance & Accounting staff to ensure all departmental goals and objectives are met. Ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems, account and fund balances, records, and function. Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures. Make recommendations regarding Foundations policies and procedures.
Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for corporate, foundation, federal, and state funders and the Foundation boards; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
Serve as strategic partner to the AVP, Foundations & CFO for Foundations and Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement. Coordinate the development and monitoring of strategies, plans, and foundation budgets.
Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed. Manage cash, investment, and other asset balances and assist the AVP/CFO in executing and managing financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships.
Remain up-to-date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal rules and regulations regarding nonprofit operations and coordinate audits and proper filing of tax returns. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
Develop financial business plans and forecasts and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization's operations and business plans.
Coordinate the development of short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections. Represent the Foundations to financial partners, including financial institutions, investment advisors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
Assist in the development of Foundation investment policies and performance monitoring.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years' work experience in accounting in a higher education or public employer setting. Supervisor experience required.
Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree.
CPA License.
Ten years of financial management and accounting experience in a non-profit organization and philanthropic setting.
Experience working in or with a non-profit foundation affiliated with a public college or university.
Demonstrated career progression with proven ability to select, train, supervise, and motivate a professional team.
Experience working with Blackbaud Financial Edge and/or Blackbaud Raiser's Edge.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities The Director will be a dynamic, self-motivated, well-rounded individual with a strong financial accounting, reporting, and management background and demonstrated leadership ability. The Director will have experience in non-profit financial accounting and associated operational aspects of non-profit organizations. Ideally, the Director will have experience providing leadership and guidance to staff in financial operations and experience working with or in a complex non-profit organization with multiple funding sources and an affiliate structure.
Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B17
Salary Range: $109,500/annually - $125,000/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
