Job Description

The Court Liaison/Risk Assistant is responsible for activities related to court advocacy, program admission, progress hearings, and supporting a therapeutic setting. Responsibilities include assisting the hospital on a daily basis while also conducting court advocacy with patients, prosecutors, and judges by using clinical and risk evaluation information. Risk Management duties include gathering data, analyzing risk factors, and developing strategies to minimize potential threats.

Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Follow and track patients who may be on a NED or OPC/Medication status (time sensitive).
    • Prepare and file court documents with clinicals when necessary. This includes ensuring documents are notarized and ensuring payment is delivered to the court.
    • Ensure compliance regarding request of release.
    • Communicate with attorneys as necessary, testify at hearings when needed, and coordinate the appropriate documentation.
    • Assist with monitoring compliance with the Joint Commission and other regulatory standards through file review, accurate documentation and auditing methods.
    • Excellent customer services skills in face-to-face interactions while dealing courteously with patients, the public, legal entities and other staff within the organization.
    • Assist in identifying and assessing potential risks, support the development and implementation of risk management strategies, maintain and update risk management documentation; collaborate with various departments to gather risk-related data; monitor and analyze risk factors and trends.
    • Participate in hospital internal investigations keeping an unbiased opinion and the strictest confidentiality, monitor the compliance with risk management activities, support the communication of risk management initiates across the hospital and assist in the preparation of risk management presentations, etc.
    • Complies with facility safety, infection control and security program.
    • Supports facility internal and external customer service standards.
    • Performs related duties and other duties as assigned in accordance with hospital needs.
    • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.

Requirements

Education: High School degree or equivalent required. Associates/Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent years of experience.

Licenses: N/A

Experience:

· 2 years of experience in a healthcare field or a combination of education and experience required

· 1 years of paralegal or equivalent experience preferred

· 1 year court liaison experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to concentrate on work amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic; must be able to consistently meet deadlines; ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Must have basic PC skills that include a combination of working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English; Additional language abilities desirable.
  • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
  • Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
  • Ability to effectively interact with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic classes, including those in crises or resistant or negative toward organization.
  • Must have conflict resolution, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to apply time management practices to prioritize, schedule and complete work effectively to comply with mandated policies and deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks or parts of tasks simultaneously to ensure timely completion of work activities.
  • Must be able to work productively with other department heads and personnel.
  • Ability to work with professionals from many outside partners and organizations.
  • Usually works forty (40) hours per week.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize with strong time management skills.
  • Exceptional follow through on tasks and assignments
  • Must possess leadership qualities and be able to supervise and secure the cooperation of staff.

Screening: Must successfully pass background check, drug screen, physical and be able to provide positive employment references.
