$26.49 - $29.00.

Shift: 40-hour work week; Monday through Friday 8:30am -5:15pm.

Work Location : East Meadow - In-person.

Overview of the Role:

Responsible to protect the assets of the credit union. Identifying and collecting consumer, credit card and home equity loans, which are delinquent, potentially delinquent or charged off.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily collection activities for consumer, credit card, and home equity loans. Contact delinquent members, including co-signers, by telephone, SMS, mail, e-mail or in person to discuss their account(s).
  • Perform daily collection activities for negative savings, checking or other accounts. Contact negative members, including joint owners, by telephone, SMS, mail, e-mail or in person to discuss their account(s).
  • Determine delinquency causes, and if appropriate, provide financial counseling to the member, make recommendations of Credit Union services, and establish proper corrective action to bring the loan current.
  • Respond to member inquiries regarding payment notices and delinquent accounts.
  • Ensures that delinquency notices and negative balance letters are prepared and sent to members/co-signers and ensure that the notices/letters are complete and correct at the date of mailing.
  • Facilitate borrowers telephone initiated payment requests and forward same to Operations Support team for processing.
  • Follow up with Borrowers on delinquent taxes, collateral protection insurance (CPI), vehicle titles to ensure the Credit Union is listed as Loss Payee.
  • Maintain delinquency and collection history on all delinquent loans. Recommend accounts to be charged-off to Loss Mitigation Management and subsequently refer item(s) for further collection Services. Assist in the preparation of accounts to be charged-off.
  • Ensure the proper adherence to credit union delinquent notice policies and procedures and ensure all collection practices are within and in accordance with governmental and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • When applicable, follow up on debt protection and life/disability insurance claims, etc.
  • Interact with the credit union's attorney if necessary on bankruptcy claims and legal actions.
  • Review daily online banking WEB ACH origination report to verify new accounts linked for future ACH transfers.
  • Research and investigate suspicious bill pay transactions when alerted by Bill Pay Vendor.
  • BSA/AML compliance (and compliance with the Office of Foreign Assets Control) is the responsibility of all employees throughout the organization. This is achieved through: annual training, reporting compliance issues to the attention of the Compliance Officer and keeping aware of regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare required forms for delinquent accounts to be referred to the credit union's Loss Mitigation Supervisor.

Other Duties:

  • When necessary, assist the Loss Mitigation Supervisor in handling bankruptcy notifications, preparing and mailing pre-foreclosure notices, etc.
  • Remain current on changes within the legal, regulatory, economic, competitive and technology environments, which may affect the Loss Mitigation operation function.
  • Maintain records to support collection activity for comparability and analysis. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Credentials, Experience and Skills:

  • The Job requires a high school or equivalency diploma. Three years’ experience in Collections or a related field with equal responsibilities is required. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with members, management and team members. 
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Possess a high sense of urgency and attention to detail.
